"After a few years working in a nursery I was interested in learning more about the industry and was ready for a new challenge. So when my employer at the time described the NZPPI Young Achiever competition I jumped at the opportunity to enter.
The competition was just the challenge I was looking for. It connected me with others in the industry, introduced me to new technology and innovations, and pushed me to further develop a number of skills. Including public speaking, something I hadn't done since university.
I was very fortunate to have Carol Fraser as a mentor in the lead up to the Young Horticulturist Competition. She supported me every step of the way. Carol was a role model that left a lasting impression on me.
The experience has provided me with a network and skill sets which have supported an incredible career trajectory in the primary sector."
