Our five Young Producer finalists compete in a range of challenges designed to prove their knowledge and proficiency in the many skills necessary in plant production.

Over two days finalists take part in both practical and theory challenges: an interview, a spreadsheet exercise, and a range of hands-on activities. Topics include pest and disease identification, plant identification, propagation techniques, pruning, irrigation and spray systems implementation, soil science, and tool use and maintenance.

At the end of day two, the Young Plant Producer Awards Night will hold the final challenge - a speech on a relevant topic. Attended by participants, sponsors and NZPPI members and staff from around the country, the awards event is always a fabulous evening to connect and celebrate with industry leaders past, present and future.
